The Impact of solving the hunger problem: education, employment, and economic revitalization
The Nourish the Children project was launched in 2002 for which children in the third world at risk with the belief of providing innovative products and improving people’s quality of life. Child hunger and malnutrition not only deprive children of a healthy life, but also of a bright future. According to UNICEF research, 3 million children die each year from malnutrition. UNICEF has also shown that investing in nutrition is critical and has a dramatic impact not only on children, but also on their families and communities.
By donating Nuskin’s VitaMeal, children will not only improve their health, but also receive an education. Parents will be able to send their children to school if children can eat VitaMeal at school. In third world countries, children, especially girls, tend to be under-educated. However, by donating a VitaMeal, buyers such as sales leaders or customers are also supporting education. Nuskin’s project webpage features words of hope for the children’s dreams and thanks to VitaMeal. It is especially impressive how VitaMeal has created a situation in which a girl in a third country is able to chase her dreams with all her might and not worry about food.
“There is no investment more effective for achieving development goals than educating girls.” by the World bank. As The World Bank says, there is no better investment than education.
It also increases the demand for crops for VitaMeal production and consequently improves the livelihood of farmers and the local economy. This is believed to eventually lead to a reduction in the need for aid. For example, in November 2004, Nuskin established a VitaMeal manufacturing plant in Malawi. This factory boosts Malawi’s economy and provides jobs for the farmers who grow the raw materials and as employees of the factory that produces VitaMeal.
Through the Nourish the Children project, Nuskin tells his audience the importance of giving them an education as well as solving the problem of children’s hunger. They announced on November 17 that they have donated 700 million meals and also announced a change in their donation system: the company will add a donation of $1 for every 10 bags of VitaMeal purchased and $2 for every 30 bags purchased. Not only the purchasers but also the company will increase the donation, so we can expect further increase in donations.
Solving children’s health problems will not only change their future, but also have a positive impact on the environment around them. It gives them an education, creates jobs, and boosts the economy. Nuskin also keeps the donation system transparent by intervening with third parties before VitaMeal reaches the children, and the project allows more people to get involved. Nuskin’s efforts are creating a world where children do not have to give up on their dreams for the future, and giving hope to the adults around them. Their activities will continue to have a positive impact on everything.
